As the busiest travel season of the year, the thought of getting through airport security can be enough to make you want to stay home. But since TSA’s announcement in August that it would allow laptops to remain in checkpoint-friendly briefcases at the security checkpoint, things may have juscheckpoint-friendly laptop caset gotten easier.

In October, Briggs and Riley, Pathfinder and Victorinox Swiss Army introduced checkpoint-friendly briefcases and laptop cases. These computer bags not only offer convenience and less stress during the security screening, but they also protect the computer on the X-ray belt.

Pathfinder introduced the CompuBrief™ and Victorinox Swiss Army released the Security Fast Pass™. These briefcases allow the laptop to remain inside the travel bag because they were designed with a book-style opening that allows the laptop to lay flat on the X-ray belt without cords, files and other accessories obstructing the view. Briggs and Riley also recently introduced the SpeedThru™ Sleeve, which protects the laptop on the security belt and eliminates the need for airport trays.

So the next time you go to purchase a briefcase or computer bag, be sure to check if they were developed in close compliance with TSA checkpoint-friendly guidelines, which include:

  • A designated laptop-only section.
  • The laptop-only section completely unfolds to lie flat on the X-ray belt.
  • No metal snaps, zippers or buckles inside, underneath or on top of the laptop-only section.
  • No pockets on the inside or outside of the laptop-only section.
  • Nothing packed in the laptop-only section other than the computer itself.
