Manufacturers Release "Wide-Body" Carry-On Luggage

Recently, a few of the top luggage manufacturers released a new size for their carry-on bags. This new bag, commonly called the "Wide-Body", is a carry-on that is shorter and wider in stature, but has more capacity than its 22-inch traditional counterpart.

The suitcase stands at 20 inches tall, but it boasts a greater width, thus giving it more packing capacity than a traditional carry-on luggage. Even with the greater girth, the overall dimensions, commonly 20 x 16 x 8.5 inches, still fall within the 45 linear-inch restrictions so many airlines enforce.

Another bonus? It is perfectly suitable for international travel, where 20 inches is often the maximum height allowed for carry-on luggage!

Here, we list our favorite wide-body carry-on luggage:

I have the Briggs & Riley 20” expandable wide body – it’s one of my favorite pieces of luggage. Briggs & Riley has some smart designs – this one comes with their unique Outsider handle system – the bars are on the outside leaving a flat packing surface on the inside. The wider body but shorter length really does give more packing space! And if I want even more, I just press the buttons and the bag has 24% more packing space!
